Judging, Categories, and Awards
 |
The organizers of this show hope to minimize the importance of judging and competition within the classes. The show is intended to be a fun event and not primarily focused on competition. Awards will be given to the vehicles judged most popular by the general viewing audience as expressed by ballot. Both spectators and participants will be able to turn in ballots. There are ten major classes being judged but the organizing committee reserves the right to either cancel or sub-divide each class depending on the enrolment or for any other reason. It is up to the entrant to suggest the class they would like to compete in when registering online, but the organizing committee will make the final determination in order to prevent over or under-population of a particular class. Awards for each category will be presented at 2pm just after the guest speaker is presented. The trophies for each class will be a piece of original artwork designed by the industrial design students.
The ten major classes and their descriptions are listed below:
1) 1900 - 1947 Unmodified
(Judging Color GRAY)
This includes the antique pre-war cars that are in a configuration very consistent with the original manufactures intention for the look, performance, and feel of the vehicle. If your '32 Ford has a small block Chevy engine and disk brakes, then proceed to #4
2) 1948 - 1977 Unmodified
(Judging Color ORANGE)
This unmodified class is for vehicles in a state very close to when they were originally manufactured. Any modifications should be minor and very consistent with the original manufactures intention for the look, performance, and feel of the vehicle.
3) 1978 - 2008+ Unmodified
(Judging Color YELLOW)
Daily driven cars are welcome in this category as well as exotics and pre-release prototypes. Any modifications should be minor and very consistent with the original manufactures intention for the look, performance, and feel of the vehicle. This class is likely to be subdivided into model year ranges as enrolment increases.
4) Rear Wheel Drive or AWD Modified
(Judging Color RED)
This class is for rear wheel drive cars of all years that have been modified in some significant way. This could include anything from muscle cars that have significantly larger wheels and tires to kit cars, to “built from scratch” hot rods, dune buggies, etc.
5) Front Wheel Drive Modified
(Judging Color PURPLE)
This class is for front wheel drive cars of all years that have been modified in body shape, suspension, engine performance, or audio power. The import-tuned or sub-compact cars will fall into this category.
6) Truck, SUV, Rock Crawlers, Off-Road, 4X4
(Judging Color LIME GREEN)
This class is for all vehicles, either 2 or 4 wheel drive, that have or could have a large hitch or winch.
7) Motorcycles
(Judging Color KELLY GREEN)
All motorcycles will be in one class unless the entries permit a division. Both two and three wheeled motorcycles will be judged here. If your engine is between your legs then you have found your category.
8) Alternative fuel/Electric/"green" Vehicles
(Judging Color BROWN)
Vehicles in this class are those that have unusual or modified drive trains for fuel economy, reducing our dependence on foreign oil or reduced emissions.
9) Race cars/Karts/Military/Experimental Vehicles
(Judging Color TURQUOISE)
Most entries in this category are not street legal. Racing karts are welcome to display in this category along with full size race cars of any type such as SCCA road racing cars, stock cars, drag racing cars, or formula cars.
10) Student "Beaters"
(Judging Color HOT PINK)
Cars in this class must be registered to park on campus with a current Georgia Tech parking pass. Cars in this class will score higher with dents, rust, worn interiors, unpopular body styles, political opinions or music taste expressed in the form of worn bumper stickers or graphics. The intent of this class is not to encourage students to modify their cars for the show, but to reward the daily self-expression that is typically seen in campus parking lots. If you suspect that your car may be worth less than your parking pass, then this might be the special category for you.
